Some important key points about marble

  • Marble is a metamorphic rock. “Metamorphosize” literally means to change in form. When a rock is exposed to tremendous levels of pressure and heat, it can cause enormous changes in the physical and chemical composition of the rock. Marble is a by-product of limestone that was subject to drastic temperature change and compression.
  • Marble is said to be an extraordinarily beautiful natural stone. It is synonymous with grandeur and luxury and was used in historical monuments like the Taj Mahal. Even today, the Taj is revered for its unparalleled beauty. Marble, when introduced in homes, adds a regal touch as well, even more so in kitchens. Each marble stone is distinctively different from one another, enhancing the beauty and elegance of any home, bungalow or villa.
  • It’s quite fascinating to study the geologic process of how marble is formed. It is characteristically formed from limestone that goes through volcanic and tectonic activity. Due to the extreme pressure and heat, there is a radical transformation in the molecular structure and overall mineral composition. In some parts of the world like the Sinal Peninsula, the marble is of a yellow hue with gold specks. It is commonly called as yellow marble limestone. It is also found in the Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan.
  • Marble will never cease from being marble. It can be cut apart but it continues to remain a metamorphic rock. Due to heavy traffic at home or workstation, the appearance may be altered. Exposure to acidic substances and fluctuation in temperature may cause the marble to go through some chemical change. This can be best avoided through the application of a protective sealant, like the glaze on ceramic tiles. It must be cleaned daily and occasionally polished to retain its glossy look.
  • Marble is quite pricey and can dig deep into your pocket but fortunately, there are cheaper alternatives. Porcelain is a cheaper material that imitates the appearance of marble. Ceramique au Sommet offers bathroom fixtures and fittings for the same.
  • Marble is always cool to the touch. As such, it is best employed in kitchens where fire is an unpleasant burden. This will help alleviate the heat. You can breathe a sigh of relief, as rolling out dough will be a far simpler task. The surface won’t be sticky and you won’t be to be huffing and puffing from profuse sweating. Marble is an all-round winner!
