Preventing Roaches from Infesting Your Home

Cockroaches are household pests that are drawn to moisture. They can be found in nearly all parts of the world. These are persistent and hard to eliminate. Aside from being disgusting to look at, they also pose a severe health risk to people because they carry diseases and can cause allergies to some people. If you have spotted a few roaches in your house, do not panic. Saela Pest Control has pest professionals who can help you eliminate all the roaches in your house and prevent another infestation from happening.

How Common are Roaches?

Cockroaches are dirty. In Denver, German roaches are quite common. These roaches are attracted to warm, moist environments such as bathrooms and kitchens. When left unchecked, these species can start an infestation that you may not be able to handle on your own.

German roaches are smaller species that only grow to around 0.5 inches long. However, they tend to reproduce quickly. One female German roach can lay up to forty eggs at once. These eggs will turn into mature roaches after a few weeks. Thus, a small infestation can quickly turn into a big one in no time.

In addition, Denver is also home to Oriental roaches. These species prefer cooler temperatures and can be found in crawl spaces and basements. They are bigger than German roaches as they can grow up to an inch long. Although these roaches are not as productive as German roaches, they can still lead to issues when left unchecked.

Tips to Prevent a Cockroach Infestation

It’s important to understand how to best control roaches in your house. However, keep in mind that the best roach control begins with good prevention. Below are tips to prevent roaches from invading your home:

Eliminate Food Sources

To prevent roaches from infesting your hose, get rid of their food sources. Make sure your kitchen does not have food particles. This means cleaning surfaces, cooking utensils, appliances, and floors frequently. Also, roaches are drawn to moisture, so ensure to wipe away water puddles and drips under sinks and fridges. Take out the trash regularly and store pet food in sealed containers.

Additionally, make sure that food is only kept in the kitchen. Minimize the amount of food present in other areas of your home such as bedroom and living room to decrease the risk of infestation.

Inspect Water Sources

Check for water sources. Fix leaky faucets, taps, and pipes in your house to minimize humidity. If your drains or pipes are clogged, unclog them right away. Such areas can be ideal breeding grounds for roaches. Ensure there is no standing water in sinks and bathtubs.

Seal Up Entry Points

Check your house thoroughly for points of entry. Close off holes in walls, doors, windows, or floors. Inspect the vents, baseboards, closets, and cabinets for gaps or cracks. Also, you must pay attention to your plants. Roaches may use these as their hiding spots or a source of food. Pest control professionals can help make your home roach-free by identifying common entry points and hiding spots and sealing them up with the right material.
